Here at Viva Rain Farms on Kaua’i we have been practicing sustainable farming practices and thoughtful living since before Brittany shaved her head.
My husband, Brad Smith, has been dedicated to organic farming since attending college at UCSC where he found a phenomenal farming apprenticeship that launched his love of digging in the dirt! You can still visit the homeless garden in Santa Cruz that he and his class did as their class project over 20 years ago!
Brad introduced me to farming in 2005 when we became stewards of a 23 acre exotic fruit farm on the north shore of Kaua’i. Being an island girl raised by a herbalist mother and organic gardening father it wasn’t a huge leap for me.
We fell in love with each other and farming together. We have worked side by side ever since (except when we are having a farming disagreement, then you better duck and cover!)
Every day we are inspired by our beautiful island and making sure our son has the same opportunities for clean air and rich soil we enjoy.
I carry my love for the land into my skin care line. In fact my production space it solar powered! Every choice I make is thoughtfully considered:
- Will it help people?
- Can I source organic fair trade ingredients I will need?
- Can I package it with minimal plastic use?
- Can I create packaging boxes out of 100% post consumer cardboard?
- Can it be made without any toxic chemicals, fillers or synthetic fragrances?
If the answer is YES to all those its time to create!
I’m so grateful to be able to share my love of nature with you all through my products!
